Presence of the past
House of European History, Belgium
28.03.2025 - 11.01.2026

The exhibition Presence of the Past is the first photographic exhibition produced by the House of European History. It reveals how Europeans engage with the past in their everyday lives and challenges how we relate to history, not as a fixed narrative, but as a living, shifting space.

The studio embraced this topic to design a scenography with the past by introducing ancient stones, reclaimed from Architecturaal Antiek Delaere, a timeless warehouse in Belgium. Columns, fireplaces, broken marble, each piece carrying the weight of its own story and become items to exhibit the 110 photographs carefully curated by Simina Bădică and Stéphanie Gonçalves.

After the exhibition, the stones will go back to the warehouse, ready to serve new stories. This circular scenography unveils a European history that is in continuous transformation, forming and reforming itself throughout the centuries.
