The exhibition Christophe Gevers, the architecture of the detail at the Design Museum highlighted the Belgian architect-designer’s work. Curated by Giovanna Massoni, it presented Gevers’ archive while questioning archiving, heritage, and transmission. The scenography followed this reflection by researching conservation materials and systems used in museums. Non-acid paper and textiles—typical in archiving—were used to create a rhythm where objects first appear as silhouettes and are revealed while walking through the space.
The exhibition explored the relevance of Gevers’ approach: artisanal production, functionality, and solid materials. We created a narrative journey through his office, material library, tools, furniture, and accessories. The physical models—central to his research—became the axis of the exhibition, displayed on a custom shelf that protects them without plexiglass and integrates label supports.
Developed with Leroy Cleeremans Studio, the graphic design merged with the scenography to unify materials. In parallel, we worked with Cristina Bargna from the Design Museum to consider long-term improvements to their plastic archive. We selected materials for the exhibition that the museum could later reuse: the wood sheets supporting the models will serve their inflatable plastic objects; the Belgian linen can be applied to ceilings as dust protection; and the PEFC-certified pine shelves will become rolling trays for moving large pieces in the archive.
