For the traveling exhibition Au Charbon! shown at the Mining History Centre, the studio develop the same principle as the first chapter at CID Grand Hornu: design an exhibition with existing materials and giving a central role to text. For this iteration in this stunning site in France, the exhibition was adapted to smaller spaces and was design with existing material on site.The wooden beams from the previous exhibition were carefully dismantled and transformed into protective structures holding the text, extending the idea of reuse into new functionality. The texts, printed on wallpaper and objects displayed into showcases taken from the museum storage, reaffirm the studio’s commitment to work with what already exists. By reusing, transforming, and recontextualizing materials, Au Charbon! exhibition welcome the post-carbon era and explores how an exhibition can be both narrative and sustainable.
Eco-design assessment
As members of the Ecothèque, we were able to conduct an environmental assessment of the impact of the exhibition design projects we worked on.
